⚡ The big one: faster and more reliable
Talanoa is faster and more reliable, everywhere, with every kind of account. I rebuilt everything that happens behind your inbox: how your mail arrives, how your actions reach your provider, how your emails are kept on your computer. You won’t see a new button. You’ll see an app that stays out of your way.
- Smooth, even during a big sync. Scrolling, opening an email or switching sections no longer stutters while Talanoa brings in a lot of mail.
- Your mail keeps flowing. No more accounts that pause for a moment, folders that never finish syncing, or emails that come back after you archived them.
- What you do sticks. Archive, delete, mark as read: your actions reach your mailbox, even when your connection drops along the way.
- The AI can’t take the app down. If the private AI runs into trouble, Talanoa keeps working.
- Gmail, Outlook and IMAP, treated the same. Every account now gets the same care, so an improvement for one reaches all of them. Your phone runs on the very same foundation.
The first time you open 1.1, Talanoa shows Updating your mailbox, then Catching up on your mail. This happens once, can take a few minutes on a large mailbox, and your inbox opens by itself when it is done.
✨ New & improved
- Choose the name people see. Settings → Accounts has a new Sender name field, also asked when you connect an account. Gmail used to send with the bare address, so recipients only saw the part before the @. Outlook accounts keep the name of your Microsoft account.
- See when older mail is syncing. While an account brings in its older messages, its tile in the sidebar shows a small turning sync badge. Hover it to see how many messages arrived so far.
- Ask AI finds people’s mail. A question that names someone (“what does Paul want?”) now finds the emails they sent, not only their contact card. No reindex needed.
- Open tasks from any device. A task linked to an email that isn’t on this computer (an old one, or one made on your phone) now downloads the email before opening it, instead of showing an empty thread.
- Logos for every brand email. Newsletters sent from a subdomain (like emailing.monoprix.fr) now show the brand’s logo, like its other emails, instead of initials.
- Undo an archive from the row. Archiving with the check mark on a row’s hover toolbar can now be undone with
Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows and Linux), in every view including Smart Inbox.
- [Outlook] Every folder syncs, nested ones included. Folders inside other folders now sync too, and new, renamed or deleted folders are picked up on their own.
- [IMAP] Large emails show up at once. An email with heavy attachments appears right away, and its files download in the background. Opening one before that downloads it on the spot.
- New accounts are ready sooner. Your sections, rules and tasks show up a few seconds after you connect an account, instead of up to 15 minutes later. During setup, older messages keep syncing in the background once your inbox is ready.
🐛 Fixes & polish
- [Gmail] Conversations stay read. A reply sent before its draft was saved could make its conversation come back unread every time you read it. It stays read now.
- [IMAP] Emptying the trash really empties it. On iCloud, Empty trash said the emails were deleted, but they stayed in the trash. They go now. Thanks to the user who reported this one.
- [IMAP] Moving an email elsewhere no longer duplicates it. An email moved to another folder from your phone or webmail could vanish, come back, and ring as new mail. It now simply changes folder.
- [IMAP] Mailboxes with many folders finish syncing. With more than about 20 folders, a sync could start over endlessly and never reach older mail. It finishes now, and folders with nothing new are skipped.
- [IMAP] Fewer dropped connections. Some servers (Yandex, for example) close idle connections after a couple of minutes. Talanoa now learns how long a server allows and stays connected.
- [IMAP] Senders without a name get one. An email from a bare address like [email protected] showed a blank sender. It now shows “Noreply”, like Gmail does.
- Blocked images leave no broken boxes. With remote images held back, newsletters were full of broken image icons, and banners could take a square of empty space. Blocked images now take no room.
- Signatures readable in dark mode. A signature with dark text was invisible in the composer in dark mode. It is shown in light colors while you write, and sent exactly as you made it.
- A space is a space. After clicking an attachment, typing a space in your reply opened the attachment’s preview instead. It types a space now.
- Suggested replies work on long threads. The AI could fail on a reply deep in a long conversation because the quoted history was too long for the model. It now reads only the new part.
- Adding a second Google account works. Adding two Google accounts in a row could look like nothing happened on the second sign-in. It goes through now.
- Emails without a subject say so. In a conversation, a message with no subject shows (No subject) instead of an empty line.
- A full sync really refreshes everything. Full Sync in Settings → Accounts now checks the state of every email it finds against the server (read, archived, labels), not only the ones it was missing.
On mobile: the app gets the same speed and reliability as the desktop, with a redesigned Home, Todos and a new Search screen. Update from TestFlight or the Play Store beta.
