How to connect your Gmail account

The easy one 😌

Good news: Gmail is the easiest account to connect. You won’t type any password in Talanoa.

Instead, Talanoa sends you to Google. Google asks “Do you trust this app?”, you say yes, and Google sends you back. A bit like a hall pass signed by the teacher.

Step 1: Click the Google button

If this is your first time opening Talanoa: click Continue with Google.

If you already have an account in Talanoa: click the + at the bottom of your accounts list, on the left side of the window, then click Sign in with Google.

Your web browser opens a Google page.

Step 2: Say yes to Google

1. Pick your Google account. (Or sign in, if Google doesn’t know you yet.)
2. Google shows a list of things Talanoa would like to do, like reading and sending your emails.
3. Check every box, then click Continue.

👉 Why every box? Talanoa is an email app. Without permission to read your emails, it would be like a bookshop with no books.

Your emails stay on your computer. Talanoa doesn’t copy your emails to its own servers. Google just lets the app on your computer talk to your mailbox.

Step 3: Go back to Talanoa

Google sends you back to Talanoa. If your browser asks “Open Talanoa?”, click Open.

And… that’s it! 🎉 Talanoa starts bringing in your emails, your contacts and your signatures. The first time can take a few minutes if your mailbox is big. Perfect time to stretch your legs.

Something went wrong?

“Talanoa says some permissions were not granted.” One box was left unchecked in Step 2. No big deal. Click the Google button again and check every box this time.

“I’m waiting in my browser and nothing happens.” Make sure you picked the right Google account. If you’re stuck, go back to Talanoa and click the Google button again to start over.

“I already have one account and Talanoa asks me to upgrade.” The free version of Talanoa lets you use one account. To add more, you need Talanoa Pro.
