Take the welcome tour
Right after you connect your first account, Talanoa gives you a short tour while your emails arrive. Here's what each page does.
- Time needed
- About 3 minutes
- What you need
- Talanoa, and your first email account just connected
A tour while your emails move in 🧭
When you connect your first account, Talanoa starts bringing in your emails. That can take a few minutes.
Instead of making you stare at a loading bar, Talanoa gives you a short tour. It’s like a host showing you around the house while the movers carry in the boxes.
Every page sets something for real. Whatever you pick is saved right away. And you can change all of it later in Settings.
How to move around the tour
- Click Continue to go to the next page.
- Click Back to go to the page before.
- At the top, there’s a row of little dots, one per page. Hover a dot to see the page’s name. Click a dot you already passed to jump back to it.
- On some pages, Not now lets you skip.
The pages, one by one
- Welcome. A quick hello. If you just started your free trial, you’ll see that Pro is yours for 14 days, with everything unlocked and no card to enter. Click Let’s go.
- Pick your look. Choose System (follows your computer), Light or Dark. The change happens right away.
- Make your inbox yours. Choose your Reading mode (Classic list or Smart inbox) and your Layout (Full width or Split view). A little preview changes as you click, so you can see before you decide.
- An AI that stays on your computer. Talanoa looks at your computer and suggests a private AI that runs right on it. Nothing is sent out. You can also turn on translation and Learn my writing style. Not interested? Click Not now.
- Ask your inbox anything. Turn on Ask AI, so you can search your emails in plain words. It gets ready in the background. (This page only shows up if you kept the AI on.)
- Get notified of new messages? Click Yes, notify me or No thanks. If you say yes, your computer may ask for permission too. Say yes there as well.
- Final touches. Three small things: whether images in emails show up right away or only when you ask, Make default to open email links in Talanoa, and Launch at Startup.
- Your calendar, right in your inbox. Click Connect calendar to add your Google or Outlook calendar, or Not now.
- Widgets beside your inbox. Pick little helpers to show next to your emails: Today, Tasks and Scratchpad. Pick any, or none.
- Talanoa in your pocket. Scan the code with your phone’s camera to get the mobile app.
- You’re all set. One last tip:
Cmd+Kon Mac,Ctrl+Kon Windows and Linux, opens everything in a few keystrokes. Click Open my inbox.
Waiting on “Almost there…”? The last button stays grey until your newest emails are in. Older emails keep arriving in the background after that. Good moment for a coffee.
And… that’s it! 🎉 Welcome home.
Good to know
- The AI, Ask AI and calendar pages are part of Talanoa Pro. They show up during your free trial, or if you’re on Pro.
- When you add another account later, you get a much shorter tour: a color for the new account and how its inbox reads, its calendar, and, when you have two accounts, whether they share one to-do list or each get their own. See Use several accounts.
Questions you might have
“I clicked through too fast. Can I see the tour again?”
Not as a tour, but every choice lives in Settings. Open it with Cmd+, on Mac or Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux. For example, the look is in General, notifications in Notifications, and the AI in AI.
“I said no to notifications. Can I change my mind?” Yes. Go to Settings → Notifications. See Notifications, your way.
“Do I have to download the AI?” Not at all. Click Not now and Talanoa works perfectly without it.
