How to lock Talanoa with a passcode

Add a 4-digit passcode so nobody can peek at your emails when you step away from your computer.

What you need
Talanoa Pro, and a 4-digit code you'll remember

A lock on your mailbox 🔒

You get up for a coffee. Your computer stays open on your desk. Your emails are right there, for anyone walking by.

App Lock fixes that. After a few minutes without you touching Talanoa, it closes the curtains and asks for a 4-digit passcode, like your phone does. Only you know the code.

App Lock is part of Talanoa Pro.

Step 1: Turn on App Lock

  1. Click the gear at the bottom left of the window, then Settings. (Or press Cmd+, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux.)
  2. Click Security.
  3. Turn on the switch next to App Lock Protection.

Step 2: Choose your passcode

A small window opens: Set Up App Lock.

  1. Type 4 digits, with your keyboard or by clicking the numbers.
  2. Click Enable App Lock.

Pick something you’ll remember, but not your birthday. Your cat knows your birthday.

Step 3: Choose when it locks

Once App Lock is on, a new setting appears: Auto-lock Timer.

  1. Click the menu.
  2. Pick how long Talanoa waits before locking itself: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes or 1 hour.

The clock starts when you stop using Talanoa. The default is 5 minutes.

And… that’s it! 🎉 Your emails now have a door, and you have the only key.

Lock it right now

Leaving your desk and don’t want to wait for the timer?

  1. Click the gear at the bottom left of the window.
  2. Click Lock screen.

Talanoa locks right away. To come back in, type your passcode on the Talanoa is locked screen.

Good to know

  • Wrong code three times? Talanoa makes you wait a minute before trying again. Each new mistake makes the wait a bit longer. That keeps guessers away.
  • To turn it off, go back to Settings → Security and turn off App Lock Protection. You can always turn it off, even without Pro.
  • App Lock protects the Talanoa window. For full protection, also use a password on your computer itself.

Something went wrong?

“The switch won’t turn on and Talanoa shows me Pro.” App Lock is a Pro feature. You can get it with Talanoa Pro.

“I don’t see Lock screen in the menu.” It only shows up once App Lock is turned on in Settings → Security.

“I forgot my passcode.” There’s no “forgot my code” button in the lock screen. Write to us, tell us what’s happening, and we’ll guide you.
